- The enjoyment of the right to the highest attainable standards of health is vital to human dignity, life and well-being, and is crucial to the realization of many other fundamental human rights and freedoms.
- The majority of ordinary citizens in Kenya do not have access to health-related rights. Therefore, their livelihoods are impaired making them vulnerable and exposing them to other human rights violations. Moreover, the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV and the challenges in preventing and managing the disease due to such stigma call for integration of human rights in programmes and strategies around health and HIV.
- The protection of human rights reduces vulnerabilities and therefore can contribute towards reducing new infections, as well as protecting rights to care and treatment. Human rights programming is therefore essential to public health and to a successful response to HIV.
