2nd ANNUAL LREB FORUM ON NATURAL RESOURCE AND BLUE ECONOMY

KELIN and National Land Commission hosted the 2nd annual forum on Natural Resource and Blue Economy within Lake Region Economic Block (LREB). During the conference, the Luo council of elders contributed on the importance of use of traditional knowledge in natural resource management.

In his closing remarks, Commissioner Reginald Okumu urged the community actors to nature culture as a way of managing natural resource. He added that the constitution mandates the NLC to promote the use of traditional dispute resolution to mitigate land conflicts.

Participants agreed that stakeholders should partner to better implement current and future projects and to create awareness at the community level. Relevant stakeholders were tasked with the duty to capacity build community partners for better dissemination of information at the community level. It was also established that there is a need to support local communities with resources for them to better understand and implement natural resource and blue economy projects.
