KELIN in partnership with Kenya Paediatric Association (KPA) and National Empowerment Network of People Living with HIV (NEPHAK), with support from Privacy International is organizing a breakfast meeting to launch a report of a study on the rights to privacy and confidentiality for persons living with HIV accessing health services in Nairobi County. The meeting will be held on 18 December, 2014 at the Silver Springs Hotel in Nairobi, from 7.00 am to 10.00 am.

The meeting is a buildup of the trainings and radio shows KELIN has been carrying out on privacy and confidentiality for persons living with HIV in Kenya. The study being launched documented the level of awareness and understanding among healthcare workers and people living with HIV on the legal and policy provisions, and practices relating to the right to privacy and confidentiality. The findings will provide critical information to the relevant stakeholders that will help in legal and policy reform with a view to improving practices on right to privacy and confidentiality in the context HIV service delivery in Kenya.

It is expected after the meeting, the stakeholders will be enlightened on how they can use the existing legal environment for the protection of information relating to the HIV status of persons living with HIV in healthcare settings. It is expected that the awareness of the stakeholders especially People Living with HIV on the right to privacy and confidentiality will be increased across the country.
