The Legal Aid Clinic is necessitated by the fact that despite the existence of HIV specific legislation in Kenya, the rights of people living with HIV are often violated because of their presumed or known HIV status. This causes PLHIV to suffer both the burden of the disease and the consequential loss of other rights.
KELIN will work with a pool of pro bono lawyers to give legal advice on a wide array of legal issues including:
- health-related human rights;
- legal protection of PLHIV as contained in the HIV & AIDS Prevention and Control Act (HAPCA);
- sexual reproductive health rights;
- rights of women especially in relation to land and property;
- rights of key and affected populations.
Healthcare providers will also provide medical advice on a range of health related issues, including HIV testing and counseling.
The Legal Camp will be held on June 9, 2016 at Manyatta Area in Kisumu County. A similar legal camp was held at Navakholo in Kakamega on June 7, 2016.
