KELIN to Offer Free Legal Advice to Residents of Kibra, Nairobi County

KELIN, with support from UNDP, will on 29 July 2016 offer free legal advice to residents of Kibra in Nairobi County. The Legal Camp targets persons living with HIV (PLHIV) and those whose health-related human rights have been violated.

Legal AID

The Legal Aid Clinic is necessitated by the fact that despite the existence of a HIV specific legislation in Kenya, the rights of people living with HIV are often violated because of their presumed or known HIV status. This causes PLHIV to suffer both the burden of the disease and the consequential loss of other rights.

KELIN will work with a pool of pro bono lawyers to give free legal advice on a wide array of legal issues including:

  • health-related human rights;
  • legal protection of PLHIV as contained in the HIV & AIDS Prevention and Control Act (HAPCA);
  • sexual reproductive health rights;
  • rights of women especially in relation to land and property;
  • rights of key and affected populations.

Women Fighting AIDS in Kenya (WOFAK), National Empowerment Network of People Living with HIV in Kenya (NEPHAK) in conjunction with office of Kibra area MP will support mobilization of participants.

The Legal Camp will be held on 29 July 2016 in Kibera, Mchanganyiko Social Hall grounds starting 9:00 am
