KELIN to Host Regional Forum for Law Enforcement Officers and Health Care Workers

KELIN in partnership with AIDS Rights Alliance of Southern Africa, ENDA Santé Southern Africa Litigation Centre, and the United Nations Development Programme Regional Office will conduct a two day regional forum for law enforcement officers and health care workers on 5 – 6 September, 2016. The forum will focus on the linkages between HIV, human rights and law in creating a platform for removal of legal barriers to treatment for key and affected populations. The participants at this forum will be drawn from Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Senegal, Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

This regional forum is premised on the crucial role that law enforcement officers and healthcare workers play in supporting rights-based responses to HIV and TB in the region. This will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to share experiences on the legal barriers that affect access to treatment by key and affected population.

The forum seeks to strengthen regional and national evidence-based law, policy and strategy to support improved access to and delivery of HIV and TB services for key population. It also seeks to strengthen regional and national mechanisms to prevent and address human rights violations that impede key populations’ access to HIV and TB services.

This forum on HIV, human rights and the law is an activity under the Africa Regional HIV Grant – Removing Legal Barriers, financed by the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for a period of three years. The forum will build on previous   discussions that KELIN has had with law enforcement officers and health care workers.
