On 26 January 2017, KELIN in partnership with PITCH (Partnership to Inspire, Transform and Connect the HIV response) conducted a one day multi stakeholder dialogue forum on violence prevention, HIV and human rights in Kwale County. The forum brought together 41 participants including representatives from County AIDS and STI control program (CASCO), religious bodies, health care workers, legislators, probation officers, senior prison officer and the key population community. The forum was premised on the crucial role that these stakeholders play in supporting the prevention of violence and enabling access to healthcare services for the key and affected populations.
At the end of the meeting, participants came up with the following action points:
- County AIDS Control Program (CASCO) will collaborate with KELIN and other stakeholders to form a Kwale County Key Population Technical Working Group.
- The KP-led organizations in Kwale County in partnership with KELIN will train the police on HIV human rights and the law affecting key population.
- Participants will document human rights violations using the tool developed by KELIN in collaboration with KP-led organizations in Mombasa.
This forum goes toward fulfilling KELIN’s broader strategy, as per 2015 – 2019 strategic plan, to create key partnerships at county, national, regional and global levels for better delivery of our mandate.
