KELIN to host National Action Plan Meeting on Strengthening the Legal and Policy Environment for HIV & TB Response

KELIN in partnership with the UNDP regional office will on 9 – 10 March 2017 conduct a national action plan meeting on strengthening the legal and policy environment for the HIV & TB Response. This national action plan meeting is an activity under the Africa Regional HIV Grant – Removing Legal Barriers, financed by the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for a period of three years.

The forum will focus on carrying forward recommendations of the two legal environment assessment on laws and policies affecting access to HIV and TB services for key populations. The two legal assessments were conducted by the National AIDS Control Council (NACC) and KELIN in 2013 and 2016 respectively. The participants at this forum will be drawn from various stakeholders including; law enforcement agencies, Ministry of Health, NACC, NASCOP, judiciary, Council of Governors, national human rights institutions, civil society organizations  and representatives of key population organizations.

This forum is premised on the crucial fact that despite recommendations made in the legal assessment report to civil society organizations and stakeholders from the national and county governments to ensure that key populations are not left behind in national HIV response, the country still lacks nationally agreed upon action plans for law and policy reform.

The forum will thus provide an opportunity to stake holders to critique recommendations made in the legal environment assessments and formulate action plans and timelines for law reform.
