“A human rights-based approach is a conceptual framework for the process of human development that is normatively based on international human rights standards and operationally directed to promoting and protecting human rights. It seeks to analyze inequalities which lie at the heart of development problems and redress discriminatory practices and unjust distributions of power that impede development progress. A human rights-based approach should be regarded as an essential tool for achieving sustainable development outcomes such as access to sexual and reproductive health care.”
Premised on the above understanding, KELIN will be conducting a two day training on 21 – 22 August 2017 for civil society organizations working in the reproductive health sector.
The objectives of the training include;
- Introduce participants to the basic concepts and principles of the rights based approach;
- Discuss the available platforms for holding duty bearers accountable; and
- Enlighten participants on the place of sexual and reproductive health rights within the county structures.
The training will be a participatory learning process which will include structured presentations, panel discussions and plenaries that allow sufficient question and answer sessions.
As a result of this training, KELIN hopes to strengthen local communities participation in improving transparency, accountability and greater impact on norms and values, structures, policies and practice in the reproductive health sector.
