Data on TB key, vulnerable and underserved populations is limited

There is limited data on TB key, vulnerable and underserved populations in Kenya. Although this data is segregated on the basis of gender, it is however not being used for any programming, planning or policy purposes. These are some of the findings of the Data Assessment of TB key, vulnerable and underserved populations and the TB Gender Assessment that were presented to stakeholders during a validation workshop on 19 January 2018.

Participants noted that no deliberate effort has been made to collect data on TB key, vulnerable and underserved populations. The stakeholders tasked government representatives present in the meeting to work with other stakeholders in order to address this limitation.

Participants recognised the need to carry out research and develop tools to identify and collect data on key, vulnerable and underserved population while ensuring its safety and confidentiality.

The validation workshop, held on 19 January 2018, was convened by KELIN with financial support from Stop TB Partnership. This followed an initial stakeholders meeting held on 6 December 2017, literature review, key informant interviews and focus group discussions. KELIN is grateful to stakeholders, including communities affected by TB, civil society organisations, national and county government representatives, and development partners all of who provided useful feedback in this process.

KELIN will continue to engage relevant actors and partners to ensure that recommendations from these Assessments are implemented and reflected in some of the policy documents to be developed at the National and County level. The Final Assessment Report will be shared in February 2018.
