Petitions 605 and 606 of 2014 challenging the forced and coerced sterilization of five women living with HIV through a procedure known as bilateral tubal ligation will now be heard on 12th October 2020.
The court gave this new hearing date during today’s mention, considering that the courts will soon proceed on vacation in August and September.
In petition 605 of 2014, six witnesses who supported the case had testified. Two witnesses in support of Medicines Sans Frontiers (MSF), the 1st respondent had equally given their evidence. The court is on 12th October 2020 expected to proceed to hear the witnesses for Marie Stopes International, the third respondent, and the fifth respondent the Attorney General.
In petition 606 of 2014, LAW the petitioner had completed giving her testimony. The witness for Marura Nursing Home, the 1st respondent in the case had commenced her testimony and was stood down when being cross-examined. It is expected that the witness for Marura Nursing Home will finish her testimony on the 12th of October 2020.
