It’s Digital Health Week 2024! On the 5th of November 2024, KELIN, in collaboration with Digital Health and Rights Project (DHRP) partners, STOPAIDS, NAP+ Ghana, DHRP CAT and Restless Development hosted a vibrant and insightful webinar bringing together stakeholders, advocates, and youth representatives to explore the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Health, and Human Rights in Africa. This webinar highlighted crucial aspects of digital health governance, emphasizing the essential role of youth in shaping future frameworks.
KELIN and partner organizations set the stage by underlining the importance of collaborative efforts in digital health as the participants were eager to delve into discussions that would shape the future of digital health governance. Speakers from STOPAIDS and the Youth Coordinator from NAP+ Ghana presented on the Digital Health Rights Project (DHRP) and its prior initiatives, stressing the critical convergence of AI technologies and human rights principles. They explored how digital health solutions can enhance accessibility and equity while underscoring the importance of safeguarding rights in an increasingly digital health landscape. Restless Development and a K-CAT member guided an insightful session on the role of youth in digital health governance. Their discussions highlighted youth perspectives, shedding light on how young leaders are essential drivers for inclusive, rights-based digital health solutions. By engaging youth, digital health governance can remain responsive, dynamic, and attuned to the needs of all users.
Participants engaged in interactive question and answer session where they shared insights on youth involvement in digital health governance and developed actionable recommendations. These discussions provided a platform for participants to contribute innovative ideas and outline strategies to amplify youth voices in digital health policy. This interactive session reinforced the collaborative spirit of the event and underscored the need for sustained dialogue and youth engagement in digital health.
The DHRP partners are committed to not only advancing human rights in digital health but ensure the youth are at the forefront of this in the digital age. The discussions and recommendations shared will inform KELIN’s ongoing efforts to build an inclusive digital health governance framework across Africa.
