These were the reflections of Victorine Auma, a pastor and founder of the St Anne’s Mwangaza Community based organization at the end of the two day training conducted in Kisumu. On 27 – 28 November 2017, KELIN engaged 46 Community Based Organizations (CBOs) from Kisumu and Homa Bay counties in a two day training on documentation and reporting of sexual and reproductive health violations.
The training focused on empowering the CBO leadership with the necessary skills to respond to, report and document violations faced by vulnerable girls and young women. The forum was anchored on the fact that CBOs are an important vehicle to educate and disseminate sensitive and accurate information to the communities they live in.
The training sought to impart necessary information to CBOs to enable them facilitate access to justice for young girls who may be violated within their communities and equipping CBOs to take the lead in advocacy on issues affecting Adolescent Girls and Young Women.
As a result of this training, the CBOs formed county advocacy teams that will create awareness on the violations faced by young women. KELIN hopes to continue collaborating with the CBOs in reporting violations, creating linkages and advancing justice for young women who are sexually violated.
