HealthCare workers to Benefit from Training on Constitutional Safeguards for Reproductive Health

KELIN in conjunction with Kenya Medical Association (KMA) have organized a one day forum with reproductive health medical providers from Nairobi County. The forum that takes place on 11 August 2015 aims to sensitize the health providers on the legal compliance requirements needed to efficiently run their clinics. The training seeks to ensure that mid-level providers such as clinical officers, nurses and mid wives are aware of the laws regulating provision of reproductive health services to minors, the permit and licence requirements for setting up clinics and their constitutional rights in case of arrest and harassment by law enforcement agencies.
The forum will bring together medical providers and lawyers from Nairobi County with a view of achieving the following objects:
1. To provide comprehensive feedback to providers on the Facility Assessments that were previously conducted by KMA;
2. To breakdown legal terminologies to participants and build an understanding on the rights of an accused person;
3. To create an understanding on the importance of record management, documentation and the place of consent of minors;

The dialogue is a continuation of a series of trainings that KELIN has previously carried out in Mombasa and Nakuru Counties with other reproductive health providers. At the end of the dialogue it is expected that the participants will have increased knowledge, skills and competence in matters of the law and compliance with the regulatory frameworks needed to efficiently run clinics.
