The High Court will on Friday 10 June, 2016 deliver a ruling that will determine applications by parties seeking to join Petition 605 of 2014 as either friends of the court or interested parties.
These parties are: Professor Alicia Ely Yamin, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) who seek to join the Petition as amicus curiae (friends of the court); on the other hand, the International Community of Women with HIV – Global (ICW Global), and the International Community of Women with HIV – Kenya (ICW Kenya) seek to join as interested parties. The mentioned parties save for ICW-Kenya have already been enjoined in Petition 606 of 2014, which addresses similar issues on the forced and coerced sterilization of women living with HIV.
