INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION 2023

On the 8th of March 2023, Transform Health Kenya and the KELIN’s SRHR Thematic Area joined the Nairobi City County and the Ministry of Public Service and Gender in marking the International Women’s Day 2023 at the Rowallan Camp, Kibera Drive.

The event brought together more than 500 Nairobi County Residents who were keen on celebrating the day with the theme, DigitALL: Promoting Gender equity within digitally enabled health systems. The event started with a match in support of women’s rights and was followed by a zumba dance session to promote fitness and well-being. The Cabinet Executive Committee Member for Inclusivity in Nairobi County, Hon. Suzanne Silantoi, and a Representative from the State department of Gender both addressed attendees, emphasizing the importance of using technology to advocate for women’s rights, particularly in this age of digital transformation. They urged women to leverage technology to amplify their voices and bring attention to issues that affect them.

Transform Health Kenya utilised the opportunity to showcase its work at an exhibition booth onsite. The booth showcased the work of the coalition as well as projects of its implementing partners. Participants who visited the booth were interested in understanding the connection between health, technology, policies, and Universal Health Coverage. There was equal interest in the work that the implementing members of the coalition engage, for instance, the Sex Workers Outreach Project in which Partners for Health and Development in Africa (PHDA) has advanced to incorporate a digital health technology and the merger of technology with sexual and reproductive health service opportunities. The booth was indeed a great opportunity for attendees to learn more about Transform Health Kenya, KELIN, PHDA and why use of digital health technologies is important to achieve UHC.

The event was core in raising awareness about the importance of women’s rights and advocating for their empowerment when it comes to access and use of technology. The speeches and exhibition booths highlighted the need to embrace technology to amplify women’s voices and ensure that their rights are protected.
