The training, which is part of the overall KELIN DREAMS Innovation Challenge is set to empower widow champions: on the basic concepts of HIV, sexual and reproductive health rights; increase their understanding on the legal protections available to young women whose sexual and reproductive rights have been violated; and create stronger networking linkages in securing justice for victims of sexual violence.
KELIN is building on existing relationships cultivated through its Cultural Structures Project (CSP), which has been implemented under the Women Land and Property Rights thematic area to addresses the unequal treatment of women living with HIV within the cultural setting. KELIN hopes to build on the relationships with Widow Champions who have been central to the CSP and beneficiaries of the evolving cultural constructs and their interpretation. This training will strengthen the linkages between adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and widow champions who have the requisite knowledge and can empathise with AGYW regarding sexual and reproductive health violations. This will allow the widow champions to assist in the referral of cases to the relevant authorities and provide care and support to the AGYW by intervening at multiple levels.
