KELIN to host a validation meeting of the TB Legal Environment Assessment Report

KELIN, with financial and technical support from Stop TB Secretariat, will on 21 July 2017 host a one-day meeting to validate the findings of the Legal Environment Assessment of TB in Kenya.

Since March 2017, KELIN has piloted a legal environment assessment of TB in Kenya. This assessment of legal and policy framework aimed to identify and examine all important legal and human rights issues affecting the TB response in Kenya. KELIN utilized its existing networks to reach out to partners in communities of people with TB, government stakeholders, civil society organizations, and legal experts in this assessment. Specifically, the process entailed:

  • A desk review of laws, policies, guidelines and strategies to identify existing gaps;
  • Field research through key informant interviews to gather information on practices and impact of existing laws, policies and guidelines;
  • Focus group discussion with communities affected by TB for personal stories;
  • An inter-county multi-stakeholder community dialogue with key stakeholders at the community;

The process having been concluded and a draft report prepared, KELIN will host a National Validation Meeting to discuss and validate the findings of the Legal Environment Assessment. Deliberations at this meeting will be used to enrich and finalize the Report.

The Validation Meeting will bring together stakeholders working on TB and human rights including TB survivors and affected communities, health care workers, representatives of civil society organizations, key populations organizations, law enforcement officers, and representatives of government agencies from both the National and County Government.
