KELIN nurturing 30 adolescent girl champions from Kisumu County on HIV, Land and property Rights

On 12th – 13th October 2017, KELIN will engage 30 Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) Champions in a two day training in Kisumu County. The AGYW champions have been selected from a pool of 150 girls who had been previously trained by KELIN on “facilitating access to justice for sexual violations” under the

DREAMS innovation challange which is committed to achieving a 40% reduction in HIV infection among adolescent girls and young women in sub-Saharan Africa.

The training which will bring together girls drawn from the sub counties of Seme, Nyando, Kisumu Central, Kisumu East, Nyakach, Kisumu West and Muhoroni  aims to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Build the capacity the champions on basic counseling and communication skills;
  2. Empower the girls on HIV risks and the Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and (post-exposure prophylaxis) PEP guidelines; and
  3. Enhance the participants’ understanding of sexual and gender based violence from the police perspective

At the end of the training, KELIN hopes that the girls will form strong reporting networks aimed at facilitating access to justice for victims of sexual violations and initiating mentorship programmes that will benefit their peers.
