KELIN set to conduct violence prevention programme for key populations in Kisii

On 26-27 April 2018, KELIN in partnership with Partnership to Inspire, Transform and Connect the HIV response (PITCH) will conduct a two day training on violence prevention, and documentation of human rights violations in Kisii County.

The workshop will bring together a number of key population groups, including sex workers and injecting drug users, seeking to enhance an understanding of the linkages between violence prevention, HIV and human rights; foster support for key populations’ access to justice; and strengthen their capacities to respond to cases of violence. This training is premised on a worrying trend of increasing cases of violence against key populations in the region and recent adverse directives issued by the County Government including the arrest of 300 sex workers and forcefully testing them for STIs. The workshop will thus be founded on the role of the community in supporting interventions that are geared towards promoting human rights and access to HIV services for the key populations.

As a result of this forum, KELIN hopes to: enhance the understanding of key population groups on the linkages between violence prevention, HIV and Human Rights; foster support for key populations to access justice; and strengthen the abilities of key population groups to respond to cases of violence.
