KELIN to train members from Civil Society & Communities on monitoring implementation of the Right to Health

KELIN will on 23 and 24 November 2016 train representatives of communities and civil society organizations (CSOs) on monitoring the implementation of the right to health under the Constitution of Kenya. The two-day training, that will take place in Machakos county, will bring together representatives of communities and civil society organisations working in the counties of Bungoma, Kakamega, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Kilifi, Mombasa and Nairobi. This training follows KELIN’s successful launch of a manual on monitoring the implementation of the right to health.

The training aims to enhance CSOs’ understanding on their role with respect to their work on the right to health under a devolved system of governance. The meeting is convened by KELIN, with technical and financial support from UNDP.

Participants at the training will be trained on:

  • the general provisions of the Constitution of Kenya and their relevance in the implementation of health as a right;
  • the Kenyan system of devolved governance and the role of the different state organs and agencies at the two levels of governance in the delivery of services in the health sector;
  • the responsibilities of different stakeholders in respect of their mandates in monitoring the right to health.

KELIN seeks to build a pool of community and civil society members who are well versed with the right to health in the context of a devolved system of governance and this training serves as a stepping stone towards fulfilling this important goal.
