This is a follow-up event to the advocacy campaign on public health conducted last year prior to the enactment of the Health Bill. The forum aims to build the capacity of the participants to take leadership in the ongoing legal and policy developments within Parliament, Senate, and the Ministry of Health. Emphasis will be placed on the Health Bill, Reproductive Health Care Bill, the Legal Aid Bill and the Policies, Standards, and Guidelines on Maternal Mortality.
The following are the objectives of the forum:
- Appraise participants on the law-making processes in the National Assembly, Senate, and County Assemblies;
- Equip participants with sufficient and practical knowledge on how to draft and submit memoranda in Parliament; and,
- Create a networking forum that will strengthen the participants’ capacity to effectively engage in law-making processes within and outside Parliament.
Lawyers and CSOs, working on reproductive health, were chosen in recognition of their instrumental role in promoting democratic practice and good governance. They are known to advocate for the interests and views of different groups in society, ideally resulting in regulations, laws, and policies that are more sustainable and better tailored to citizens’ needs.
The partners anticipate that the participants will acquire the skills and knowledge for effective participation in decision-making and successful engagement in health-related law-making processes.
