KELIN trains CSOs, CBOs and young women on documentation of sexual and reproductive health and rights violations

KELIN held two one-day training on the 6th and 7th March on documentation of sexual and reproductive health rights violations. Sixty (60) Civil Society Organisation (CSO) representatives, Community Based Organizations (CBOs) representatives and young women attended the forum from Kisumu, Mombasa and Nairobi.

The objectives of the training were to: introduce participants to the Kenyan legislative framework on sexual and reproductive health and rights; demonstrate the linkages between sexual and gender based violence and sexual and reproductive health and rights; and deliberate on recognition and documentation of SRHR violations within communities.

At the end of the training, the represented Community Based Organizations undertook to take forward a number of action points, including:

  • Mapping stakeholders working on SGBV at the community level and refer clients to them.
  • Advocate for the introduction of a specialized docket for gender related issues in police stations.
  • Identification of gender based violence centers and dissemination of their emergency numbers.
  • Setting up of safe spaces for the victims/survivors of SRHR violations.

This training was indicative of the necessity for building a response system at grass root level to ensure that those most likely to have their sexual and reproductive rights violated have access to the services to redress these violations.
