The High Court of Kenya has set the dates of 18th and 19th October 2021 for the parties involved in Petitions 605 and 606 of 2014 to make their final oral arguments in support of the evidence they have put forth. The two cases, that were filed in 2014, the forced and coerced sterilization of five women living with HIV.
In both petitions, all parties have filed their submissions, though not within the timelines set by the court. Justice Murima has further directed the Petitioners to file responses to the Respondents’ submissions on or before the 10th of September 2021. This will pave way for the highlighting of the arguments on 18th and 19th October.
The petitions have been before the court for over six years and the petitioners welcome the date set by the court for the highlighting of submissions with the hope that the matter will soon be concluded and that justice is served.
PLEASE NOTE: The petitioners request that their names and identity should not be disclosed in the media to protect them from further stigma and discrimination on the basis of their HIV status. They are therefore not available to give interviews.
