Regional bodies have a significant role in advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights in Africa

As part of a growing regional partnership, on the 28 – 29th June 2018, KELIN and the Dullah Omar Institute – University of Western Cape, convened a colloquium that brought together various Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) actors from across Africa. This is one of two colloquiums hosted by three implementing partners of the Amplify Change Grant Project “Closing the gap: Advancing SRHR in Africa through Research, Advocacy and Litigation”. The partners, KELIN, Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa and the Dullah Omar Institute are implementing a two-year networking grant whose objective is to strengthen legal protection of SRHR in East and Southern Africa through research, advocacy, and strategic litigation.

Informed by the international trends, dynamics and changes that have occurred since the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) at Cairo in 1994, the colloquium held discussions and reviewed recent developments in SRHR at international, regional and national levels.

This year’s colloquium significantly contributed to the objectives envisioned in the overall two-year grant. It provided a platform for KELIN to foster partnerships and strengthen capacity amongst regional human rights actors towards advancing SRHR in Africa.

As a result of this forum KELIN will continue enriching and strengthening its SRHR partnerships regionally; and promoting collaboration amongst African actors in advancing SRHR.
