KELIN is leading the process of conducting two critical assessments in Kenya: TB Gender Assessment and Data Assessment for Key, Vulnerable and Underserved Populations. The Data Assessment aims to identify populations most affected by TB in Kenya, the existing data gaps and its impact to access to services. Many of the 4.3 million people with active TB currently missed by public health systems every year are likely to be disproportionally concentrated among individuals who are at higher risks of latent TB infection (and risk of latent TB becoming active TB). However, data on these key and vulnerable populations is currently limited.
On the other hand, the Gender Assessment aims to determine the gender related barriers to access to TB services and develop appropriate recommendations. A gender assessment process helps to identify gender-related barriers to services as well as specific needs of women, men, transgender people and key and vulnerable populations, in the context of TB, in the process reinforcing political commitment and increasing civil society capacity, to better respond to these barriers and needs.
This meeting will introduce stakeholders to the purpose, scope and methodology of these two Assessments. Relatedly, the meeting will provide stakeholders with an opportunity to feedback on preliminary research findings, and illustrate data limitations.
This meeting will bring together members of civil society, communities affected by TB, government representatives, development partners, service providers, and key populations.
At the end of the forum, KELIN hopes to garner support of the stakeholders in undertaking the assessments and their subsequent commitment to implementing the recommendations.
