Statement from the KELIN Board of Directors

On behalf of the Kenya Legal & Ethical Issues Network on HIV and AIDS (KELIN) Board of Directors, I would like to bring to your attention, some strategic decisions we have made in the recent past.

As you are all aware, Allan Maleche our Executive Director received an amazing and humbling opportunity to undertake a highly coveted fellowship at the O’Neill Institute undertaking an LLM Program at the Georgetown University, Washington DC in the United States of America as a Belén Rios Scholar. He began this exciting journey in September of 2022 and has been working remotely ever since.

Given the intensity of his workload, including several KELIN partner engagements that he continues to undertake while in America, and to provide leadership anchorage in Allan’s physical absence, we have appointed Nerima Were – the current Head of programmes and deputy executive Director to step in, in an acting capacity to support the day-to-day operations of KELIN. Allan will however continue to oversee at the high-level organization strategic plans until his return in July 2023. Nerima Were will therefore hold fort as Acting Executive Director for a period of six (6) months effective 6th February 2023.

As a Board, we congratulate Allan on his fine achievement, and wish Nerima all the best as she takes on this challenging yet exciting acting opportunity.
