Transform Health Regional and National Coalition Members Convene in Nairobi for Joint Learning Forum

Transform Health Coalition aims to bolster capacity and refine strategies to enhance healthcare outcomes globally between 2024 and 2026. Coalition representatives from Kenya, Senegal, Indonesia, Ecuador, and Mexico congregated for a joint learning forum from April 24th to 26th, 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya.  The Forum was organized to harness collective wisdom and propel the attainment of Universal Health Coverage through digital technologies and data. This collaborative effort came on the heels of Transform Health Kenya’s Strategic Planning Workshop held from April 22nd to 24th, where the coalition delineated its priorities for the next phase of transformative healthcare initiatives.

The overarching goal of the Forum was to cultivate a culture of collaboration and mutual learning among national coalitions and regional networks to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and expertise. Participants delved into current approaches by national coalitions that have been implemented for over 1-year, drawing insights from past experiences and pinpointing areas for improvement in the future.

Through collaborative sessions, coalition members collectively designed approaches to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration. Strategies to foster organic idea exchange and devise collective strategies to maximize the coalition’s global impact were explored. Participants proposed co-advocacy efforts during global events and hosting joint webinars to share best practices. Outcome trackers for implementation were devised to ensure accountability and progress tracking. Advocacy and policy efforts were scrutinized to fortify influence and impact. Discussions also revolved around the significance of effective communication in amplifying advocacy goals and fostering understanding of healthcare initiatives.

A pivotal session involved the sharing of expertise, where each country’s coalition showcased their knowledge and skill. Mexico presented insights on AI and Digital Health, Kenya highlighted efforts in shaping the legal and policy environment for digital health, while Indonesia shared findings from the Primary Healthcare Gap Analysis study. Moreover, discussions delved into current priorities and approaches, evaluating their alignment with national and regional agendas such as the development of a Global Model Law on Digital Health. Challenges encountered in engagement at these levels such as disruption of advocacy when there is a change of governments, were dissected and strategies proposed to mitigate these obstacles such as targeting mid-level government officials who serve regardless of election outcomes. Attendees reflected on the effectiveness and impact of current efforts, exploring avenues for improvement with considerable input on youth advocacy.

KELIN remains strongly committed to its mission of promoting health-related human rights. We welcome the collaborative endeavor between regional and national coalition health stakeholders and the concerted efforts towards harnessing collective knowledge and expertise to drive Universal Health Coverage globally.
