Youth Group to Benefit from Training on Women Property Rights

KELIN will conduct a training for LAGNET Youth Group on Women Property Rights. The training which will take place on 13and 14 November in Ahero, Nyando Constituency is aimed at strengthening the capacity of the youth on identification of human rights violations and redress for justice improvement, increase their knowledge on human rights including women’s property rights and also to increase knowledge of the youth on how women can access both the formal and informal justice systems.

The 15 participants drawn from LAGNET theater group from Nyando Constituency, have been working closely with KELIN to educate the general public on issues of women property rights through educational skits.

The youth involve all community members especially perpetrators of widows’ rights in the project activities to increase their knowledge and enable them read on the same page   for improved attitude towards interpretation and application of cultural practices relating to women’s rights. For this to be achieved, the information on the same should be passed in a manner that the community members can easily relate to and in a language they can understand better thus interactive theatre.

At the end of the two days training, KELIN will work closely with the trained youth in creating awareness in schools in the six constituencies within Kisumu and Homabay Counties where KELIN works with elders’ structures to mediate in cases where widows and orphans have been disinherited of their rightful property. This will enhance access to the rightful information to community levels.
